Do I recommend trying Neurodol Tissugel Lidocaine Patches to relieve back pain? 100% YES!
I initially thought about describing Neurodol Tissugel in my post ‘Medication to Relieve Neuropathic Pain caused by Tarlov Cysts‘…but discovering those patches was a ‘before and after’ for me. Because of this, I believe it deserves a post of its own.
WHAT ARE NEURODOL TISSUGEL PATCHES?
Neurodol Tissugel Patches are small, adhesive patches infused with Lidocaine, that are used to treat neuropathic pain symptoms. (700 mg of Lidocaine per patch. Patch surface is equivalent to 140 cm2).
Lidocaine belongs to the family of medicines called local anesthetics. This medicine prevents pain by blocking the signals at the nerve endings in the skin. Unlike oral medications that circulate throughout the body, Neurodol patches deliver targeted relief directly to the affected area, minimizing systemic side effects and maximizing effectiveness.
Neurodol Tissugel is the name of the product commercialized in Switzerland by IBSA Institut Biochimique SA. I leave you here the link in case you want to learn more on the product composition so you can find the equivalent in your country.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH NEURODOL TISSUGEL PATCHES
3 months after having my back pain flare up, caused by presence of Tarlov Cysts in my spine I started attending consultations in a ‘clinique for chronic pain’. I was followed and treated by an anaesthetist specialized in chronic pain; and he was the one that prescribed that medication to me. At the time I was having a lot of pain in my sacrum area but I also had a lot of pain on my gluteus and right leg. My doctor told me that the patches would only be effective on the ‘surface nerves’ of my gluteus and that I should apply my patches in that area and not in my sacrum; and so I did. As I started using them daily my overall feeling of pain and well-being improved significantly, specially in the afternoon and night which is when my level of pain would build up to its peak. This doesn’t mean that I stopped having pain of course! But using them was definitely a step towards ‘improvement’ and towards ‘restoring my life’…and I was (and will always be) very grateful for it. At the beginning I would use the patches almost daily. Over time, as the pain started to decrease gradually, I would only use them on ‘bad days’ when the pain would peak. Even today, I always have Neurodol Tissugel Patches at home and I always take them with me when I go on a trip in case pain raises and I need them.
GETTING STARTED:
1. Consultation: This medicine is available only with doctor’s prescription. Therefore, before incorporating Neurodol patches into your pain management regimen, you will need to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure they are appropriate for your specific condition and medical history.
2. Application: Clean and dry the area where you will apply the patch, ensuring it adheres securely to the skin. Follow the instructions provided with the patches for optimal results.
3. Timing: Neurodol patches typically provide relief for up to 12 hours after application and they shouldn’t be used for more than 12 hours per day. Consider timing your patch application to coincide with periods of increased pain or discomfort for maximum benefit.
MANAGING EXPECTATIONS:
While Neurodol patches can provide significant relief for many individuals, it’s important to manage expectations and recognize that they may probably not eliminate pain entirely. Instead, I view Neurodol patches as one tool in my chronic pain management toolkit, complementing other strategies that help me achieve a better quality of life.
And you? Have you used Neurodol Patches or an equivalent product? What was the name of the product? And what was your condition and experience with it? I would be greatful to hear about your experience in comments section!
